I love movies and series and books - all sorts of stories. But I've recently been informed that most of my takes on stories are either controversial or straight-up bad. This started when I informed my sci-fi-loving friends that I thought the new Dune was bad. In fact, I've read the book, and the book is a hot mess that should not be worshipped the way it is worshipped! Do you want to read a book where every character is an unlikeable character? Read Frank Herbert's Dune. Do you want a story where you just can't stop thinking about how thirsty everyone constantly is? Read Dune. Do you want a story about really stinky people? Yeah, guess what: read Dune.
Now, will every take be negative? Definitely not! I recently got sucked into the dark and ravenous void of movie/series reviewers on YouTube, and without exception, the reviews are negative. Though I learned much about putting stories and characters together in a roundabout way from them, I left feeling down that so many people spend hours of their lives tearing down other's work. Yeah, yeah, I know, it generates traffic to the creators' page. I just don't like it. As such, I promise that I will not be suckered into doing such a thing, and most of my reviews will be about stuff I love.
This brings me full circle to the title of this post: I have a very soft spot for bad cinema and bad stories. Therefore, it is not inconceivable that just about every take I have will be a bad take. Do I think Kull the Conqueror is a cinematic masterpiece? Yes, yes, I do. Is it actually any good? Probably not. Do I think T2 (Terminator 2: Judgement Day) is the best Terminator movie? No, I sure don't. Am I correct? Well, of course, I am! T2 is terrible, and I hate it with every twisted fibre of my being. The only cool scene in the movie is when Arnie pulls out a massive gun from a box of roses. There, I said it, and it will remain said.
Having bad takes is, of course, everyone's prerogative. And seeing as I'm paying for this site, this is where I will air my bad takes. I hope you enjoy!
